Getting your artwork file right before ordering DTF transfers saves time and ensures the best possible print quality. Here's exactly what you need to know.
Preferred File Type: PNG
PNG is the best format for DTF transfers because it supports transparent backgrounds. Transparent backgrounds ensure only your design prints — no white box around your artwork.
Also Accepted
- PDF (vector-based preferred)
- AI (Adobe Illustrator)
- EPS
- JPG (if background color matches garment color — less ideal)
Resolution: 300 DPI Minimum
Always export at 300 DPI (dots per inch) at the actual print size. A design that looks sharp on screen at 72 DPI will print blurry on a garment. When in doubt, go bigger — 300 DPI at 12" wide is the standard for a full chest print.
Line Thickness
Keep all line thicknesses at 0.02" (0.5mm) or thicker. Thinner lines may not transfer properly or may appear broken on the garment.
Color Mode
Design in RGB color mode. DTF printers use CMYK inks but are profiled for RGB input — sending a CMYK file can cause unexpected color shifts.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- White background instead of transparent background
- Low resolution (72 DPI screen resolution)
- Lines thinner than 0.5mm
- CMYK color mode
- Rasterized text (keep text as outlines/paths when possible)
